A Moonlit Adventure in Rhidorroch Glen
Under the Stars: A Journey Through Wester Ross Dark Skies Festival
As the night falls over the Scottish Highlands, a unique experience awaits those seeking an adventure that combines the beauty of nature with the mystique of the night sky. The Wester Ross Dark Skies Festival, celebrated throughout November, offers just that - a chance to wander under the starlit canopy of Rhidorroch Glen with our Mountain Leader qualified naturalist Jenny Grant.
Embracing the Night in Wester Ross
The festival, renowned for its focus on the night sky, invites you to step away from the city lights and immerse yourself in the tranquility of the Highlands after dark. The highlight of this festival is a special event that promises an evening unlike any other - a guided moonlit walk along the peaceful road of Rhidorroch Glen.
A Walk Under the Moonlight
This 10km (approximately 6.2 miles) journey is not just a walk, but an educational exploration. The path, a well-maintained single-track road, is mostly flat, making it accessible and enjoyable for all participants. As you stroll under the moon's glow, the focus is not just on the stunning scenery but also on the symphony of sounds that emerge at night.
Listening to the Night
The walk is an auditory adventure, where you'll learn about the various noises made by nocturnal animals. This element of the event is not just about enjoyment but also education, offering insights into the wildlife that thrives under the cover of darkness in the Scottish Highlands.
An Event with a Cause
The Wester Ross Dark Skies Festival is more than just an event; it's a movement towards conservation. Please note that this moonlit walk is an adult-only event, and to ensure minimal disturbance to the wildlife, dogs are not permitted. The event relies on donations, which are crucial for the continuation of such activities and for the protection and education about the region’s natural heritage.
Your Contribution Matters
While participation is based on voluntary donations, these contributions play a significant role in the conservation efforts in the Highlands. A suggested donation of £5 per person helps cover the basic costs of organizing the walk, while £10 per person significantly aids in further supporting the conservation and educational work.
* Please be aware that there is a minimum donation of £1 required to book on via Eventbrite. This does not go to the Ranger Service but is to cover Eventbrite Fees.*
