Exploring the Prehistoric Landscapes of Wester Ross: A Ranger-Led Journey
A Journey Through Time: Achnahaird to Garvie Bay Guided Walk
Nestled in the rugged heart of Wester Ross, the Achnahaird to Garvie Bay guided walk offers a unique blend of breathtaking scenery, ancient history, and vibrant wildlife. Scheduled for Tuesday, 9th April, this excursion is not only a walk but a journey back in time, led by the knowledgeable Wester Ross Ranger Jenny Grant and the Northwest Highlands Geopark’s Pete Harrison.
Unveiling Earth's Ancient Stories
The route chosen for this walk is nothing short of spectacular, tracing the untamed coastline between two picturesque bays. As we traverse varied terrains, participants will have the rare opportunity to witness geological wonders that span billions of years. From fossils representing the earliest forms of life to the remnants of meteorite impacts, each step uncovers a chapter of our planet's deep past.
Encounters with Highland Wildlife
While the geological features of this walk are reliably awe-inspiring, the local wildlife adds an element of surprise and delight. The area is a haven for a variety of marine life and seabirds. Participants may be fortunate enough to spot otters playfully navigating the coastal waters, seals basking on the rocks, or a diverse array of seabirds soaring above. Though sightings cannot be guaranteed, the potential for these encounters adds an extra layer of excitement to our journey.
Exclusive and Intimate Experience
To ensure a quality experience for all participants, places on the walk are limited and exclusively available to adults (apologies no children on this walk - we do have other offers for families available). The Northwest Highlands Geopark team will be accompanying us, sharing the responsibility for the group and offering insights into the geological significance of the area. Should our booking page reach capacity, potential attendees are encouraged to contact Pete Harrison at pete@nwhgeopark.com for alternative arrangements.
In an effort to minimize our environmental footprint, we kindly request participants to consider car-sharing. Vehicle logistics will be managed to circumvent the need to walk along road sections, ensuring a seamless and immersive outdoor experience.
Supporting Highland Conservation
This event is organized on a donation basis, with all proceeds contributing to the educational and conservation efforts in the Highlands. We suggest a minimum donation of £12 per person to cover the costs of the event. For those who wish to further support our cause, a donation of £25 is encouraged where your means allow. We are keen that these experiences are available to anyone. Your generosity helps us continue our work in protecting and educating about the natural beauty of the Highlands.
