Do you love the wild beauty of Wester Ross? Are you passionate about its landscapes, heritage, and wildlife? High Life Highland’s Countryside Ranger team is looking for someone with that special appreciation and knowledge of the area to join us as a Wester Ross Countryside Ranger!

What’s in Store for You as a Ranger?
As our Countryside Ranger, you’ll have the opportunity to share your knowledge and enthusiasm for Wester Ross with locals and visitors alike. Based out of the Gairloch Library in the High School, you’ll be right at the heart of the region, connecting people with their local landscapes, hills and beaches and the local wildlife that make it so unique. In this part-time role (17.5 hours a week, with occasional weekend work), you’ll be designing and leading nature interpretation events, engaging with schools and community groups, and crafting educational activities to foster a deeper understanding of the area’s biodiversity and heritage.
Every Day is Different
This role is packed with variety, keeping each day fresh and meaningful. From monitoring the health of countryside sites to organising community conservation initiatives, you’ll have the chance to make a real impact. You’ll develop partnerships and lead projects that protect local wildlife, and introduce people of all ages to the wonders of the Wester Ross environment.
Who We’re Looking For
We need someone who knows Wester Ross, its people and its environment, someone who can bring a love for its heritage and natural beauty to everything they do. If you have a background in environment/ natural sciences - a knowlege of ecology or countryside work and feel comfortable guiding and inspiring others, that’s ideal. Strong communication skills and flexibility are essential, as you’ll be adapting to everything from green health engagements to school visits. Strong digital media skills will also help you share the region’s stories with a wider audience, ensuring the essence of Wester Ross reaches beyond its borders.
