Welcoming Our New Ranger: Patricia Bremner Joins the Team
We are delighted to announce that Patricia Bremner (Patti) has joined our team as the new High Life Highland Countryside Ranger for East Caithness. Patti began her role in April and will be working three days a week, from Monday to Wednesday, sharing the position with our existing Ranger, Kirsty Rosie.
Many of you may already know Patti from her work as a Veterinary Nurse at the Wick Surgery, where she has been a familiar and friendly face for many years. Patti's transition from veterinary nursing to countryside rangering brings her deep enthusiasm for wildlife, an impressive knowledge of the local area, and a passion for environmental conservation to the fore.
Based at the Seadrift Centre in Dunnet, Patti will be responsible for covering East Caithness. She joins a dedicated team of six High Life Highland Countryside Rangers in the North Highlands Team under the Senior Ranger Andy Summers. Together, they deliver a diverse programme of events, conservation activities, and guided walks. Their work also includes environmental education, school visits, and biodiversity projects.
Patti will be working closely with Paul Castle and Kirsty Rosie, who also cover the Caithness area. Their collaborative efforts will ensure that our programmes continue to thrive and engage with the community effectively.
Discovering Caithness: A Haven for Wildlife Enthusiasts
Caithness is a remarkable region, rich in natural beauty and biodiversity. The area is known for its stunning coastal landscapes, blanket bog, and vibrant wildlife. For nature enthusiasts, Caithness offers a wealth of opportunities to observe and enjoy a diverse array of species.
Birdwatchers can revel in the sight of seabirds such as puffins, guillemots, and razorbills along the rugged cliffs. Inland, the moors and wetlands provide a habitat for species like the hen harrier, merlin, and golden plover. The coastal waters are also home to marine mammals, including seals, dolphins, and occasionally, whales.
The flora of Caithness is equally impressive, with rare plants and flowers flourishing in the unique climatic conditions. The region's rich biodiversity is a down to a open, if windy, environment that our Countryside Rangers strive to protect and preserve.
Patti's addition to the team brings an exciting new dynamic, and we look forward to the contributions she will make in promoting and safeguarding the natural heritage of East Caithness. Please join us in welcoming Patti to the team and supporting her in her new role.
