The Winter Solstice, a time to celebrate the longest night and the return of the sun, is often marked with gatherings, festivities, and outdoor activities. However, Mother Nature doesn't always cooperate with our plans, as was the case this year with the High Life Highland Rangers reluctantly admitting defeat at the forecast and cancelling our two mid-winter solstice events.
Stac Pollaidh Walk: A Mid-Winter Challenge: CANCELLED
Stac Pollaidh, a distinctive peak in the Inverpolly Nature Reserve, is known for its rugged beauty and breathtaking views of the surrounding Scottish Highlands. The Winter Solstice seemed like the perfect occasion to venture into this remote landscape, offering a unique experience to those who dared to brave the cold.
The 'Festive' Walk Along the Coast: CANCELLED
Ihe 'Festive' guided walk from Crosskirk to Scrabster Harbour, along the picturesque coastal edge of north Caithness, was also cancelled. This 11-kilometer trek promised a chance to connect with nature and celebrate the holiday season in a unique way.
If you were booked onto either of these walks and gave a donation to our service online - please contact us if you wish to see a refund on that donation - for admin reasons we will need to process this before the event was due to happen. Many thanks.
Apologies from our Team
The unpredictability of nature is a reality that outdoor enthusiasts often have to contend with, especially during the winter months. Even though the preceding days had been marked by crisp, clear weather, the approaching storm is a reminder that the wilderness conditions can and do change. The decision to cancel was made to ensure the well-being of all involved, underscoring the importance of safety in any outdoor activity planning.
Thanks for your understanding.
