Thank you for this fascinating introduction (to me, as a mostly Floridian person) to the more of the Rowan tree.

Thank you! I am in Miami Florida and I named my daughter after the beauty and historic strength and magic of this tree ! :). I wish I had one ! Will they grow in my climate ? How should I go about getting seeds or a young tree to plant (quality) ? I so love this tree more and more as I continue to learn about it :)

Hi Daisy,

Thanks for asking the question about the Scottish Rowan/ Mountain ash /Sorbus americana, Sorbus aucuparia.

You're more likely to find them in the northeastern United States (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey) and in the Appalachian Mountains (Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia). Not Abundant in Florida: The climate and soil conditions in Florida are not conducive to the growth of rowan trees, so they are not a common sight there….Unlucky!

Other Rowan Species:

While Sorbus americana is the primary species in North America, the genus Sorbus includes many other species, some of which are known as rowan or mountain ash.

European Mountain Ash:

The European Mountain ash (Sorbus aucuparia) is also a common species, and it is native to Europe, western Asia, and Siberia, and naturalized in some parts of the northern U.S. and Canada.

Here's a breakdown of where and how to find Rowan trees for sale in the USA:

Online Retailers:

• Burnt Ridge Nursery: Offers Mountain Ash trees (Sorbus aucuparia) and notes that the fruit clusters are popular with wildlife and can be used for various purposes.

• Cold Stream Farm: Specializes in wholesale ash trees, including American and European Mountain Ash.

• Tree2mydoor: Offers Rowan tree saplings as gifts, with a 12-month warranty.

• Amazon: You can find Rowan tree seeds, twigs, and even porcelain ornaments featuring Rowan tree imagery.

• Home Depot: Offers Rowan Mountain Ash trees

• SpeedTree: Offers Rowan saplings

• Ashridge Trees: Offers a variety of Rowan trees, including Sorbus Cardinal Royal Rowan

• Trees Direct: Offers Rowan trees for sale

• Kingco: Offers Sorbus trees including Whitebeam, Mountain Ash and Rowan trees

• Ornamental Trees: Offers mature Rowan trees

I do not know the address of each of these, I hope that there is one close to you, but a quick search on your devices should bring them up quite quickly. It is possible that many of those will also sell seeds.

Good Luck!

Donald

Please may I use one of your Rowan tree photographs as illustration on my music video?

I have just made a recording of O Rowan Tree and I’d like to include a photo og a single rowan in berry.
